Friday's Reflection

John 14:18 — I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus promised that though He ascended, He would not leave His disciples alone. Through the Holy Spirit, He remains Emmanuel today. The Spirit comforts, convicts, teaches, and empowers, making Christ’s presence real in every believer’s heart.
A moving example of this promise is seen in the life of Elisabeth Elliot. In 1956, after her husband Jim Elliot was killed by the Huaorani tribe in Ecuador, she found herself widowed at twenty-nine, living in the jungle with her infant daughter. She later wrote that she often felt an almost unbearable loneliness—far from home, far from family, and surrounded by the people who had taken her husband’s life. Yet in those dark nights she recorded these words: “There was no human comfort. But I found that God is still God, and Christ was nearer than my own breath.” Remarkably, she did not leave. Within a year she was invited to live among the Huaorani themselves, and she moved into their village with her little girl. Over time, many in that tribe—including some involved in Jim’s death—came to faith in Christ. In the very place of her deepest sorrow, Jesus kept His promise: “I will not leave you comfortless.”
Her testimony reflects what countless believers have discovered in seasons of grief, isolation, and fear. The Holy Spirit draws near when no one else can. He is the Comforter who whispers peace in hospital rooms, courage in silent nights, and hope in sorrow-filled homes. Emmanuel is not distant—He comes to us daily through the Spirit who never abandons God’s children.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, our Comforter, thank You for making Christ’s presence real within us. Fill us anew with Your peace and power. Let Your voice calm our fears and guide our hearts in truth and love. Amen.
