The God Who Heals

Sunday's Reflection

Exodus 15:26 — For I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Healing flows from the very nature of God—He is Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals. This healing encompasses far more than physical recovery; God restores hearts broken by betrayal, relationships shattered by sin, minds tormented by guilt, and souls separated from their Creator. His touch reaches where medicine cannot penetrate, bringing wholeness to every dimension of human brokenness. Sometimes He heals instantly through miraculous intervention, sometimes gradually through natural processes, and sometimes by giving supernatural grace to endure with peace and purpose.
The promise given to Israel connects healing with obedience—not as a transaction where good behavior earns health, but as the natural result of living in harmony with our Creator's design. When the Ebola outbreak devastated West Africa in 2014, many missionaries chose to remain and serve the sick despite enormous personal risk. Their presence brought healing not only to bodies ravaged by disease but to spirits crushed by fear and abandonment. Dr. Kent Brantly, who contracted Ebola while treating patients in Liberia, later testified: "I would rather be in that isolation unit with Ebola and Jesus than anywhere else without Him." Their witness demonstrated that the Great Physician still works through His followers, bringing hope to hopeless situations and revealing that perfect healing awaits all who trust in Him.
“Christ is the great physician, not only of the body, but of the soul also. The life of Christ that gives life to the world is in His word.” (Ellen G. White, Counsels on Health, p. 561). Every physical cure points to the greater healing of sin-sick souls through His Word and presence.
Prayer: Great Physician, heal us in body, mind, and spirit. Restore what sin has broken and make us whole in Your presence. Use our lives as instruments of Your compassion, that others may find hope and healing through You. Amen.
