The God Who Is With Us

Monday's Reflection

Exodus 33:14 — And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
Moses knew that without God’s presence, Israel’s journey was meaningless. The Promised Land itself was not enough—what mattered was the Promiser. He boldly told God, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” Rest was not in geography, comfort, or victory, but in God Himself.
In our restless age, many search for peace in careers, vacations, or possessions, but true rest is found in His presence. When we bring our anxieties into prayer, when we pause to recognize His nearness, our hearts find calm even in chaos. God does not simply give rest—He is our rest, walking beside us in every step of life’s journey.
Corrie ten Boom, imprisoned in Ravensbrück during World War II, often struggled with terror and despair. Yet her sister Betsie, frail and suffering, would whisper to her in the darkness, “God is here with us, Corrie—even here.” Surrounded by hunger, brutality, and death, they learned that rest was not the absence of suffering, but the presence of God in suffering. Corrie later wrote, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.” In a place designed to crush hope, God’s nearness became their strength, their courage, and their quiet rest.
Their story reminds us that the presence of God does not depend on circumstances. Even in the darkest valley, He is near. We may not choose our surroundings, but we can choose to trust the One who walks beside us. His presence becomes our peace, and His companionship becomes our rest.
Prayer: Lord, go with us today and grant us the rest that only Your presence can bring. Teach us to trust Your companionship more than our circumstances and to find peace in knowing You are near. Amen.
