The God Who Reigns

Wednesday's Reflection
Romans 8:28 — And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Paul’s assurance does not mean that every event is good, but that God weaves every thread—dark or bright—into His good purpose. Suffering, loss, and disappointment are not wasted; they become instruments in the hands of a Redeemer who transforms pain into purpose. The same hand that shapes galaxies also shapes our trials for eternal good.
In 1967, a vibrant seventeen-year-old named Joni Eareckson Tada was paralyzed from the shoulders down after a diving accident. At first she despaired, questioning how such tragedy could fit into God’s plan. But through years of struggle and surrender, she discovered a deeper calling. From her wheelchair she began painting with her mouth, writing books, speaking around the world, and founding Joni and Friends, a global ministry serving millions with disabilities. Looking back, she said, “God permits what He hates to accomplish what He loves.” Her suffering became a channel of grace to others, turning what once seemed senseless into a living testimony of God’s goodness and sovereignty. Through Joni’s life, Romans 8:28 moved from doctrine to reality.
Like her, we may not understand our hardships while they unfold, but faith assures us that the threads of sorrow are part of a greater design. God’s promise stands: nothing in our lives is wasted when placed in His hands.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You can bring beauty from brokenness and meaning from pain. Teach us to trust Your unseen purposes and to believe that all things truly work together for good to those who love You. Amen.
