The God Who Reigns

Friday's Reflection
1 Timothy 6:15 — Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords.
Paul points to the day when Christ’s hidden sovereignty will be revealed in glory. Now His reign works quietly through changed hearts and faithful witnesses, but the time is coming when every ruler, every empire, and every nation will acknowledge His supreme authority. History reminds us that earthly thrones rise and fall, but the throne of Christ endures forever.
One vivid modern example came from the life of Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. In 1936, after his country was invaded by Mussolini’s Italy, Selassie stood before the League of Nations to plead for justice. Though the world turned a deaf ear, his words echoed through history: “It is us today. It will be you tomorrow.” He was driven into exile, but after World War II, he returned to his throne—restored not by military might but by the very nations that had once ignored him. Selassie, a devout Christian, publicly declared that his nation’s survival was due to “the will of Almighty God, who is the true King of kings.” His testimony became a living reminder that no human empire, no dictator, no worldly power can overrule the purposes of the sovereign Christ. Even kings must bow before the King of kings.
Christ’s kingdom remains unshaken when all others crumble. Whether on thrones or in hospital beds, believers hold fast to this certainty: the day is near when every eye shall see Him and every knee shall bow. Until that glorious unveiling, we serve the unseen King whose power is already at work within His people.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You alone are the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Teach us to live with loyalty to Your eternal kingdom and to trust that in Your time every power will confess Your supremacy. Amen.
