The God Who Heals
🎧 Listen to Today's Devotional
Saturday's Reflection
Revelation 21:4 — And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
God still heals today, but not everyone receives full healing on earth. Some prayers seem unanswered, and bodies remain weak. Yet God’s love does not fail in those moments—He is working a deeper healing in the heart. Sometimes sickness becomes the place where faith grows strongest, where we learn to depend on His grace instead of our own strength. The apostle Paul asked three times for his “thorn in the flesh” to be removed, but God said, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” In that answer, Paul discovered that divine strength shines brightest in human weakness.
For many who suffer long, God’s plan is not delay but purpose. Pain may teach patience, draw families together, or reveal God’s comfort to others through our example. Some of the bravest Christians have lived with illness for years, becoming lights of courage and kindness to those around them. Even when physical healing does not come, spiritual healing continues. The soul learns peace that no pain can destroy and faith that grows stronger through every trial.
Still, God has promised that suffering will not last forever. The day will come when hospitals close, tears dry, and pain is forgotten. Every faithful believer will rise whole and joyful when Christ returns. Until then, we hold to this hope: “Our present light affliction worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17). What seems broken now will be made perfect in His time, when every wound—of body, mind, and spirit—is finally healed by His hand.
“The time is near when suffering will be forever past. The redeemed will know no sorrow, no tears, no pain.”
(Ellen G. White, The Ministry of Healing, p. 506)
Prayer: Loving Father, when our healing seems far away, remind us that You are still near. Teach us to trust Your timing and find Your purpose even in pain. Give us courage to comfort others as You comfort us, and faith to look forward to that perfect day when You will wipe away every tear forever. Amen.
