The God Who Heals

Thursday's Reflection

Psalm 103:2-3 — Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.
David connects forgiveness and healing as twin gifts flowing from God’s grace. True healing touches both body and soul. The psalmist understood that sin is the deepest sickness, and salvation is the greatest cure. When God restores the heart, physical healing often follows, for we are whole beings—mind, body, and spirit intricately joined.
This truth is beautifully seen in the story of Naaman, the Syrian commander afflicted with leprosy. Proud and powerful, he first sought healing through human channels, but it was not until he humbled himself to obey God’s command—washing seven times in the Jordan—that he was cleansed. The miracle was more than skin deep; Naaman’s heart was changed. He returned to Elisha confessing, “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel.” His healing came through obedience and faith, revealing that God desires to make people whole from the inside out. When grace enters the heart, it brings not only forgiveness but renewal, cleansing the soul as surely as it restores the body.
Every healing we experience—whether through medicine, prayer, or time—is a reflection of the same divine mercy that healed Naaman and forgave David. God’s hand is present in every recovery, in every moment of peace after turmoil, and in every renewed strength after weakness. To “forget not all His benefits” means to recognize His restoring presence in every part of life and to praise Him as both Redeemer and Healer.
Prayer: Merciful Lord, forgive our sins and heal our diseases. Like Naaman, teach us humility and obedience that open the way for Your healing power. Help us to see Your hand in every recovery and to live with grateful hearts. Restore us completely—body, mind, and spirit—for Your glory. Amen.
