Sunday's Reflection

Luke 19:10 — For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Salvation represents God's greatest gift and humanity's deepest need. We cannot earn it through good works, deserve it through moral behavior, or purchase it with religious activity—it comes solely through Jesus Christ's sacrifice on Calvary. He left the perfection of heaven, walked among sinful humanity, and willingly died on the cross so that every person, regardless of their past failures or present struggles, might have hope of eternal life. Salvation is not merely about securing a place in heaven; it brings immediate transformation—joy replacing despair, peace conquering anxiety, and purpose filling previously meaningless existence.
Christ's mission was active, not passive—He came "to seek and to save." Like a shepherd searching for one lost sheep, like a woman sweeping her house for one lost coin, like a father watching for his prodigal son's return, God actively pursues lost souls with relentless love. In 1738, John Wesley attended a meeting where someone read Luther's preface to Romans, describing how God changes hearts through faith alone. Wesley later wrote that he felt his heart "strangely warmed" as he understood that Christ died specifically for him, personally bearing his sins and guilt. That moment of personal salvation ignited a revival that swept across England and America, demonstrating that salvation is never merely individual—one soul set free becomes a flame that lights others. This is the wonder of divine rescue: God seeks us when we're running from Him, saves us when we deserve judgment, and then uses our transformed lives to seek and save others who are still lost.
“The cross of Christ will be the science and the song of the redeemed through all eternity. In Christ glorified they will behold Christ crucified.” (Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 651). Salvation is not a momentary event but the theme of eternal praise.
Prayer: Saviour of the lost, thank You for seeking and saving us. Teach us to live in gratitude for Your grace and to share the joy of salvation with others. Let our hearts never forget the price You paid to bring us home. Amen.
