The God Who Provides

Saturday's Reflection
Psalm 37:25 — I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
David's testimony spans a lifetime of observing God's faithfulness. Through wars, famines, and personal trials, he witnessed that God never abandons those who trust Him. This doesn't mean believers never face hardship, but that in every season of need, God's provision arrives—sometimes miraculously, often through unexpected channels, always sufficient for the moment.
This principle continues today across generations. Elderly saints often become living testimonies of God's provision, their stories filled with moments when needs were met just in time, when doors opened after prayer, when strangers became instruments of divine care. A grandmother once told her grandchildren: "I've seen God provide through the Depression, through war, through illness and loss. Every gray hair on my head is a witness—He has never failed us." Her confidence wasn't based on wealth accumulated but on faithfulness observed. Young believers gain courage from such testimonies, learning that the same God who provided for their grandparents will provide for them.
During the Irish potato famine of the 1840s, Quaker relief workers witnessed countless examples of God's provision through His people. One family shared their last loaf of bread with a starving neighbor, only to find a basket of food left anonymously at their door the next morning. A widow who gave her final coins to help orphans received an unexpected inheritance from a distant relative she had never met. These stories became legendary in Irish communities, teaching that God honors generosity and never forsakes those who trust Him. Their testimony echoes David's words: across generations and through every trial, God's faithfulness to the righteous remains constant.
“We are to remember how often the Lord has made our wants His care and our burdens His burden.”
(Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 102)
Prayer: Eternal Provider, thank You for Your faithfulness across the generations. Help us to trust Your provision as David did, and to teach our children that You never forsake the righteous. Let our lives become living proof of Your unfailing love. Amen.
