Thursday's Reflection
1 Peter 2:12 — Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Peter addresses the reality that Christians will often be misunderstood, criticized, and even falsely accused by those who do not share their faith. The word "conversation" here refers to one's entire manner of life, not just speech. The apostle's strategy is not defensive arguments but demonstrative living—conduct so consistently honest and good that it eventually silences criticism and points observers toward God.
This principle was powerfully demonstrated in the experience of a Christian businessman who took over a failing company known for cutting corners and treating employees poorly. His competitors and even some employees were skeptical when he announced plans to operate by biblical principles—fair wages, honest advertising, quality products, and transparent business practices. Many predicted quick bankruptcy. Initial months were difficult as the company absorbed higher costs and lost some customers who had profited from previous dishonest practices. However, over time, the company's reputation for integrity attracted new customers, quality employees, and vendor partnerships. Former critics became admirers, and several key employees came to faith through witnessing the practical difference that Christian principles made in daily business operations. The company not only survived but thrived, becoming a testimony that honesty and success can coexist when God's blessing rests upon integrity.
