Sharing the Gospel

Tuesday's Reflection

Mark 16:15 — And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
When Christ spoke these words, the disciples stood on a hillside in Palestine, looking out at what seemed an impossible task. "All the world" must have felt overwhelming to these fishermen and tax collectors. Yet in God's economy, the impossible becomes inevitable when surrendered hearts meet divine power. The gospel recognizes no boundaries of race, class, education, or geography. It is as relevant in the boardroom as in the village square, as needed in the mansion as in the slum.
William Carey understood this when he left his cobbler's bench in England and sailed to India. His friends called him foolish, but Carey saw in this verse a divine mandate that transcended human comfort. He spent decades translating Scripture, establishing schools, and loving people whom others had forgotten. His tombstone bears no mention of his scholarly achievements or missionary innovations—only this simple truth: "William Carey, born August 17, 1761, died June 9, 1834. A wretched, poor, and helpless worm, on Thy kind arms I fall." The gospel he carried to India had first transformed the carrier. When we truly grasp that Christ's love extends to "every creature," it changes not only whom we serve, but how we see ourselves—as recipients of grace called to become channels of the same unmerited favor.
