Friday's Reflection
Isaiah 52:7 — How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
In ancient times, messengers who brought news of victory would run across mountain ranges to reach waiting cities. Their dust-covered, weary feet became beautiful to those who desperately needed to hear that the battle was won, that deliverance had come, that hope was restored. Isaiah's prophecy looks forward to an even greater victory—the triumph of God's kingdom over sin and death. Every person who carries this message of salvation becomes part of God's royal messenger service, their ordinary lives made beautiful by the extraordinary news they bear.
The "good tidings" we carry are not theoretical concepts but life-changing realities: peace with God through Christ's sacrifice, forgiveness for our deepest failures, purpose for our scattered lives, and hope that extends beyond the grave. Amy Carmichael understood this when she spent fifty-five years in India, rescuing children from temple prostitution and showing them the love of Christ. Her feet walked dusty paths through hostile villages, climbed treacherous mountain trails, and paced hospital floors beside sick children. To the world, they were just the feet of an unmarried missionary from Ireland. But to the hundreds of children she saved, to the Indian women she mentored, to the generations who would follow Christ because of her witness, those feet were beautiful indeed. They brought the good news that God sees, God cares, and God acts on behalf of the helpless.
