Wednesday's Reflection

John 8:12 — Then spake Jesus unto them again, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Christ's declaration reveals both His divine nature and His mission. As the light of the world, He exposes the darkness of sin while providing the illumination needed for spiritual sight. But notice the promise attached to following Him: "shall not walk in darkness." This is not merely future hope but present reality—those who follow Christ receive immediate guidance for life's journey. The light of life means more than intellectual understanding; it represents the divine energy that transforms dead hearts into living testimonies.
A mining engineer understood this truth in a profound way after being trapped underground for three days following a cave-in. In absolute darkness, he had time to contemplate his life and eternity. When the rescue team finally broke through, the first beam of their lights brought not just hope for physical salvation but a spiritual awakening. That piercing light in the darkness became a picture of what Christ had done for his soul—penetrating the spiritual darkness of his rebellion and sin with the light of grace and forgiveness. Years later, as a lay preacher in mining communities, he would often testify: "I learned in that mine shaft that physical darkness is nothing compared to spiritual darkness, and no earthly light can compare to the light that Jesus brings to the human soul." His transformed life became a beacon that led dozens of his fellow miners to faith in the True Light.
