Prayer and Communion

Friday's Reflection

James 5:16 — Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Prayer is powerful not because of our eloquence or righteousness, but because of the One who hears. When prayer is fervent—earnest, passionate, and sincere—it unleashes God's power to heal, restore, and transform. The word "availeth" means "is effective" or "accomplishes much." Even one faithful intercessor can change history, because prayer connects heaven's unlimited resources to earth's desperate needs.
James illustrates this with Elijah, who "was a man subject to like passions as we are"—meaning he struggled with the same human weaknesses we face. Yet his prayers stopped rain for three and a half years, and his prayers brought rain again. Elijah's power was not in himself but in his fervent, faithful connection with God. He prayed earnestly, and heaven responded. This same power is available to every believer who prays with faith and sincerity. We do not need special qualifications or titles—we need only genuine hearts and fervent faith.
Today, testimonies abound of fervent prayer bringing healing to the terminally ill, reconciliation to broken marriages, salvation to hardened sinners, and revival to dying churches. Prayer changes governments, alters weather patterns, opens prison doors, and accomplishes the impossible. God delights to answer the fervent prayers that rise from humble, trusting hearts. When we pray with passion and persistence, believing that God hears and will act, we activate divine power that accomplishes far more than we can ask or imagine.
Prayer: Almighty God, stir up fervent prayer in our hearts. Help us to pray with passion, faith, and persistence, believing that our prayers accomplish much through Your mighty power. Use our intercession to bring healing, restoration, and transformation to those we pray for. Amen.
