Tuesday's Reflection

Matthew 7:7-8 — Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Jesus describes prayer in three active steps: asking, seeking, and knocking. These are not three different types of prayer but escalating levels of intensity and persistence. Asking is the initial request. Seeking suggests continuing effort when the answer is not immediate. Knocking implies determined persistence even when the door seems closed. True prayer does not give up easily. Faith continues even when answers seem delayed, because we know the One who promised is faithful.
The progression teaches us that some prayers require more than a single petition. While God hears the first cry, He sometimes waits to answer in order to deepen our faith, purify our motives, or prepare us for what we are asking. Persistence in prayer is not about changing God's mind but about aligning our hearts with His timing and purposes. As we keep asking, seeking, and knocking, we grow in faith, in patience, and in trust. The delay becomes part of the answer, shaping us into people who can handle what God intends to give.
Jesus guarantees the outcome: everyone who asks receives, everyone who seeks finds, everyone who knocks will have the door opened. This is not conditional on our worthiness but on God's character. He is a good Father who delights to give good gifts to His children. The question is not whether God will answer, but whether we will persevere in prayer until the answer comes. Some answers arrive immediately; others require years of faithful intercession. But every prayer prayed in faith according to God's will receives its answer in His perfect timing.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give us faith to keep asking, seeking, and knocking even when answers are delayed. Teach us persistence in prayer and trust in Your perfect timing. Help us never to give up, knowing that You always answer those who call upon You in faith. Amen.
