Acts 1:11 — Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
As the disciples stood watching Jesus ascend into the clouds, two angels appeared beside them with a promise that has anchored the church ever since. This same Jesus, they said, will come back — and He will come in the same way you have watched Him go. Not a different Jesus, not a symbol or an idea, but the same crucified and risen Lord, returning personally, visibly, in glory. This is not a minor footnote to the Christian faith. It is the great hope toward which the whole Bible leans, from the first promise in Eden to the final "Even so, come, Lord Jesus" of Revelation.
Everything in the Christian story points forward to this moment. The cross dealt with sin, the resurrection defeated death, and the Second Coming is when it all comes to completion — when Christ returns to gather His people, end the long reign of evil, and make all things new. Without His return, the story is unfinished, the promises half-kept, the tears unwiped. That is why the early Christians spoke of it as the "blessed hope." It is the certainty that history is going somewhere, that the present darkness is not the final word, and that the One who promised to come back always keeps His word.
This week we look at the certainty and the hope of Christ's return — in a farmer whose earnest study of Scripture reawakened a whole generation to long for the coming of Jesus, in a promise written into the heavens themselves that came true exactly as foretold long after the one who spoke it had died, and in the Scriptures that tell us both to be ready and to take comfort. The question for the week is the one the angels implied: are we standing around gazing, or are we living as people who truly expect Him to return?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise that You are coming again — the same Jesus, in the same way, in glory. Fix our hearts on that blessed hope, and help us to live not as those who gaze idly, but as those who eagerly await Your return. Amen.
