Friday's Reflection

1 Peter 3:15 — But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
Peter knew what it was to be caught off guard. When a servant girl asked if he knew Jesus, fear made him deny it three times. Years later, writing to believers facing real persecution, he urged them to be ready — but to answer with gentleness and respect, not argument. The readiness he describes starts inside, where we "sanctify the Lord" — settle it in our hearts that Christ is first.
The hope Peter speaks of isn't wishful thinking. It's the settled confidence of someone who knows they're forgiven and that their life has eternal meaning. And here's the key: people have to *ask* before we answer. That means they first have to notice something different about us — something that makes them curious enough to ask the question.
That difference usually shows up in the ordinary moments: how we handle disappointment, how we treat people who are hard to love, how we stay steady when things fall apart. A life lived with quiet hope raises questions all by itself. Our job is simply to be ready, and gentle, when the questions come.
Prayer: Lord, settle our hearts so completely on You that our lives raise questions — and make us gentle and ready to answer when they do. Amen.
