Godly Leadership
🎧 Listen to Today's Devotional
Saturday's Reflection
Mark 10:43-44 — But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
This week we looked at what godly leadership actually requires. George Washington Carver turned down Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, stayed at Tuskegee for forty-seven years, gave away his discoveries freely, and died with his life savings donated to a foundation for others — because he believed God had given him his gifts to serve, not to accumulate. Moses stood between God's judgment and a rebellious people and offered his own place before God in exchange for theirs. Deborah stepped forward when no one else would and led a nation to victory, then gave all the glory back to God in song. And Peter and Ezekiel both showed us the same thing from different angles — that a leader who serves themselves while those in their care go without has already failed, and that the model God holds up is the Good Shepherd who seeks the lost at His own expense.
The thread is the same in every case. Godly leadership is not about position, title, or authority. It is about whose benefit you are working for. The servant leader works for the benefit of those in their care — their growth, their wellbeing, their flourishing. They strengthen the weak, not exploit them. They seek the lost, not ignore them. They lead by example, not by decree. And when the work is done, they give the glory where it belongs.
On this Sabbath, rest in the leadership of the One who leads perfectly — the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep. Whatever leadership you carry into next week, you carry it under His oversight. He sees the faithful work that no one else notices. And He rewards it.
"The path of men who are placed as leaders is not an easy one. But they are to see in every difficulty a call to prayer. Never are they to fail of consulting the great Source of all wisdom." (Ellen G. White, Prophets and Kings, p. 31)
Prayer: Father, thank You for the Good Shepherd who leads us perfectly. As we enter this Sabbath rest, we lay down whatever leadership we carry — our families, our teams, our responsibilities — and trust them to the One who tends His flock without fail. Amen.
