Ellen G. White (1827-1915) was a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and one of the most translated authors in history. Over a ministry of seventy years she wrote more than 100,000 pages -- some 40 books in her lifetime and many more compiled after her death, along with thousands of articles -- on subjects ranging from the life of Christ and the plan of salvation to health, education, family, and practical Christian living.

Seventh-day Adventists believe her work is a genuine manifestation of the biblical gift of prophecy -- the testimony of Jesus spoken of in Revelation 12:17 and 19:10. Yet she never placed her writings above Scripture. She called the Bible the greater light and her own work the lesser light, given to lead men and women back to the Word of God:

Her writings do not add to the Bible or take its place. They uplift Jesus, magnify the Scriptures, and call every reader to a deeper, more practical walk with God. Her counsel has guided the Adventist movement from its earliest days and continues to point believers to Christ and His soon return.
