1 You shall have no other gods before Me
Put God first in everything—time, priorities, relationships, decisions.
2 You shall not make idols
No physical or false representations of God; focus on true worship.
3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
Avoid profanity, careless speech, false oaths.
4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
The seventh-day Sabbath is for rest, worship, and drawing close to God.
5 Honor your father and your mother
Show respect, love, and obedience; the first commandment with a promise.
6 You shall not murder
Forbids intentional killing and hatred; Jesus deepened its meaning in Matthew 5.
7 You shall not commit adultery
Protects marriage; prohibits infidelity, lust, and broken trust.
8 You shall not steal
No theft or dishonesty in any form, including withholding tithes.
9 You shall not bear false witness
Commands honesty; forbids lying, gossip, and slander.
10 You shall not covet
Targets the heart—contentment and gratitude replace envy.
