Weekly Adult Sabbath School lesson summary — growing in faith as we prepare for Christ’s soon return.

4th Quarter, 2025
Lesson 6 (November 1 - November 7, 2025)
The Enemy Within
Memory Verse: "‘I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds’" (Jeremiah 17:10, ESV).
Lesson 6, “The Enemy Within” (Joshua 7-8 and related passages), explores how sin inside the camp can cripple a people. While many external threats are visible, the internal enemy—unconfessed sin, hidden disobedience, unrepented heart issues—is often more dangerous. Joshua and Israel learn that God’s victory depends not just on power and promises, but also on purity and honesty. Identifying the Hidden Enemy Before the defeat at Ai, Israel ignored the problem of disobedience. The plunder from Jericho was misused. Achan’s hidden sin brought shame, defeat, and delay. The enemy within may seem harmless until it undermines entire plans. Consequences of Compromise When Israel failed to fully obey, defeat followed. God made it clear that compromise—even small—can have large spiritual consequences. The community paid for Achan’s hidden sin. Confession, Judgment, and Restoration When sin was discovered, Joshua confronted it. Achan was identified, confessed, and dealt with. Then Israel was able to move forward. Restoration followed accountability and God’s intervention. Christ Connection In Christ we see both the judge of hearts and the one who intercedes. Sin within us is exposed by God, but in Jesus we can find forgiveness, cleansing, and the power to walk in newness of life. The cross provides for confession and restoration, just as Israel needed to remove sin to proceed into promised victory. Applications 1. Be honest with God — allow Him to search our hearts, revealing hidden sins or compromises. 2. Do not ignore small sins — what seems trivial may be undermining spiritual effectiveness. 3. Cultivate a community of accountability — in families, church, friendships, where truth and love coexist. 4. Embrace confession and restoration — God’s forgiveness leads to renewed strength and purpose. ✨ In essence: “The Enemy Within” reminds us that spiritual battles are won not only outside, but also inside. Defeat often begins within the heart. Victory requires integrity, confession, and God’s cleansing power.

Discussion / Reflection Questions

  • What kinds of ‘hidden sins’ or compromises can exist within a believer or church that are easy to overlook?
  • How might unaddressed sin or disobedience affect not just the individual, but the community around them?
  • What does it take to build a culture of honesty and accountability in a spiritual community?
  • How can we practically respond when God reveals something hidden in our hearts?
  • In what ways does Christ’s work provide both confrontation of our hidden sin and restoration for our souls?
