Lesson 3 (January 10 - January 16, 2026)
Life and Death
Memory Verse: "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21, NKJV).
Lesson 3, “Life and Death,” focuses on Paul’s profound reflection on existence, purpose, and hope while imprisoned. Facing the real possibility of execution, Paul reveals a Christ-centered perspective in which both life and death are placed fully in God’s hands. His words challenge believers to rethink success, suffering, and the meaning of life itself. Living Is Christ Paul declares that life finds its meaning in Christ alone. To live is to serve, witness, and reflect Christ’s character. His circumstances do not define his purpose; Christ does. This perspective transforms hardship into opportunity for faithful service. Death as Gain Rather than fearing death, Paul views it as gain because it means rest and ultimate union with Christ. This hope removes the terror of death and replaces it with confidence in God’s promises. Choosing for the Sake of Others Though Paul longs to be with Christ, he recognizes that remaining alive would benefit the believers. His willingness to stay for their growth reveals a selfless faith that values others above personal desire. A Worthy Walk The lesson emphasizes Paul’s appeal for believers to live lives worthy of the gospel. Whether present or absent, Paul desires that the church stand firm in unity, courage, and faithfulness amid opposition. Christ Connection Jesus Himself lived fully for the Father and faced death with complete trust. Through His resurrection, Christ transformed death from defeat into victory, giving believers assurance that life and death are secure in Him. Applications 1. Let Christ define the purpose of your life. 2. Face death with hope grounded in God’s promises. 3. Choose service to others over personal comfort. 4. Live in a way that honors the gospel. 5. Trust God fully with both life and death. ✨ In essence: “Life and Death” teaches that a Christ-centered life removes fear, gives meaning to suffering, and anchors believers in hope whether they live or die.
