Lesson 12 (September 13 - September 19, 2025)
"Please, Show Me Your Glory"
Memory Verse: And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation’ (Exod. 34:6, 7, NKJV)
1. The Context & Moses’ Request Following Israel’s sin with the golden calf, God declares He will not go with them to the Promised Land lest He consume them, because of their unfaithfulness. Moses, deeply aware of how much the people need God’s presence and favor, intercedes. He refuses to lead them without God’s presence. Moses pleads not just for guidance, but for intimacy: “Please show me Your glory.” 2. What God Reveals About His Glory God responds to Moses’ request by promising to pass His goodness before him. Moses is told that he cannot see God’s face (for it is too great), but that God will let him see His back after passing by. Then in Exodus 34:6-7, God reveals His character: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, forgiving iniquity and sin—but also just, not clearing the guilty, and bringing consequences for ongoing evil. 3. Implications & Transformation Moses’ face shines after these encounters—demonstrating that being close to God and beholding His goodness changes a person visibly. The lesson helps us see that “glory” isn’t about spectacle alone but is fundamentally about God’s character: His mercy, justice, faithfulness, etc. Moses’ example challenges believers today to seek God’s presence, to grow in knowledge of Him, to allow His revealed character to transform us—so we reflect His glory in how we live. Key Applications Seek God's ways first - Understanding God's character guides our decisions Prioritize God's presence - His presence matters more than material blessings Hunger for God Himself - True satisfaction comes from knowing Him deeply Intercede for others - Moses' example shows the heart of godly leadership Allow transformation - Spending time with God changes us visibly, making us reflect His character
